BIKE SHARE ICT

This year, Bike Share ICT celebrates its fifth anniversary with more than 50,000 rides taken in that time — rides around downtown, Delano, parks and attractions and the WSU campus. If you want to be No. 50,001, just download the app and unlock a bike at one of 45 stations around the city. Then, ride anywhere on your own schedule. For ideas check out suggested routes on the Bike Share ICT website at bikeshareict.com, including Museums on the River, Wichita State to Old Town, or a 10-mile looping ride around Sedgwick County Park. To end your session, simply return the bike to any Bike Share ICT station and lock it up.

Research shows people will exercise for longer periods outdoors compared to indoors in a home or gym. The organization People for Bikes reports that the typical cyclist has a level of fitness equivalent to someone 10 years younger and a life expectancy two years above the average.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) has been a major supporter of BikeShare ICT since the beginning, and recently announced a further donation of $360,000, bringing total contributions toward healthy living to over $1 million, according to a statement on the BCBSKS blog.

“As the state’s only local health insurer, we want to take an active role in helping Kansans lead healthier, more active lifestyles and Bike Share ICT does just that. As we celebrate our 80th anniversary this year, we could not be more excited to continue support of this exciting venture,” said Virginia Barnes, director, BCBSKS Blue Health Initiatives.
